My thepit.com strategies

I couldn't help but post another post on this blog. I enjoy writing about my obsession with speculation of prospects/gambling on The Pit. My account isn't the biggest on the site by far, but it does have a few hundred dollars in it. And since I'm on a budget, I can't afford to invest in the big money cards (I call them quality card, $5+ per), usually these are the Spx, Sp Authentic, Elite Extra Edition Autos, Topps Chrome Autos, etc. Most of my investments are in Quanity. In baseball I'm looking for uncirculated cards of guys that are consistent, young, and with the posibility to go to the majors. In football its a lot of 2nd and 3rd string qbs, rbs, and a occasional wr. Usually I'm picking these cards up between $.05 and $1 apiece. There are quite a few cards in my account that I have 100+ of. And when one of those guys gets hot and the cards starts trending upwards, I make good money. For instance, I purchased a pile of Bowman Uncirculated Trent Oeltjen cards about 2 years ago for $.10 apiece. He was consistently good, but nothing great, always in AAA ball. About a year ago, he got hot, jumped to the majors, and his bowman uncirculated cards jumped to say $.75ish apiece. Big money, No, but when you make $.65 apiece on 50 cards, not a bad deal. Now if only Colten Willems would do well, I'd be set. I've been speculating on him since the beginning, I think I have about 150 of his Chrome rc's in my account, but as of yet, nothing real special. Anyways hopefully I can get a few followers here, and this blog will grow. Its not to interesting talking to myself here. If you know anyone that plays on www.thepit.com tell them, and hopefully we can all learn something here, and become better traders.

Investments of the Week

2003 Upper Deck Prospect Premiers Daric Barton BGS 9.5 RC - This kid is just 24 years old, and had a few trips to the A's club already. He's a 1st baseman with the skills, just trying to put everything together. It's a gamble, but I've bought a few as I believe he will be pretty good, and this card is priced cheap! The last trade was $.80, and is currently at $2.80/$.80. Good Luck trying to find another BGS 9.5 rookie on the pit, of anyone even close to this kid.

2004 Donruss Elite Extra Edition Auto /803 Chuck Lofgren Rc - Again this guy is around 24 years old, and while his numbers aren't dominate, they aren't bad either. I can't see this card geting any cheaper, other then a major injury. He's shown flashes of brilliance at times, and if he can sustain it, he will be awesome! The last trade was for $1.70, and is currently at $4.50/$1.80.

2007 Bowman Chrome Draft Picks Deolis Guerra Rc - I believe this guy could be the Twins next big time pitcher. He's commonly on www.baseballamerica.com as a guy on the hot list. I expect he'll glimpse the Twins rotation this year, and will stay for quite a while. The last trade was $.40, and is currently at $.80/$.40.

2008 Bowman Chrome Prospects Danny Duffy Rc - Other then playing for the Royals, he has everything going for him. Last year, he held opponents to a 2.98 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 8.88 SO/9, and just 6 Hr's in 126.2 innings. He's only 21 years old, and this card is a steal at $1.50/$.60, with the last trade at $.80.

Investments of the Week

I am going to try and once a week, highlight a few cards from www.thepit.com that are at favorable prices, 52 week highs/lows, good investments, etc. Here are my picks for this week:

2002 Bowman Chrome Uncirculated Albert Haynesworth Rc - This is one of the best defensive line players in the NFL (when he's healthy). The current price on this card is $.10/$1.95, with the last trade at $.15. This is a steal! It's at a 52 week low, and once the NFL seasons begins again, it'll shoot up in value, as his sack total increases.

2002 Bowman Bill Hall Uncirculated Rc - This guy was pretty good for the Brewers a few years ago, now at around 30 years old he's a Red Sox. Granted he's a back up now, but he's just 1 play away from starting. And starting any position for the Red Sox means big increase in card values. The current price is $.05/$.45, with the last trade at $.05, again a 52 week low.

2003 Bowman Chrome Carlos Guzman Uncirculated Rc - This guy hit .290 last year in Hi A ball, 15 HRs, 64 RBI, .800 OPS. He is in the Mets farm system, and currently his cards are CHEAP, at $.15/$.70, with the last trade at $.25. This guy is still just 24 years old. Buy in Bulk!

2008 Razor Metal Limited Edition Casey Kelly - This card has everything going for it, limited print run of just 100 copies, Boston Red Sox Pitcher, just 20 years old, and last year in Low A ball, his stats were 6-1, 1.12 ERA, 0 HR given up, 9 walks, 39 K's, and 0.85 WHIP. This card is currently at $2.00/$3.95 with the last trade at $2.10.

New The Pit.com Blog

I"ve just created this in hopes we can recreate what we had a while ago on thepit.com when we had our own message board on the site. We had a good number of regulars that posted almost daily, and had loads of good advice on cards, prospects, IPO's, etc. Please feel free to visit often and post your thoughts on thepit.com, new IPO's, prospects, investing tips, etc. If anyone has any thought or suggestions on how I can improve this blog, please write a comment and let me know.
